The short version: this website doesn’t set cookies, doesn’t track you and doesn’t run analytics. The only personal information we get through it is what you choose to send us.

who we are

This website is run by Matter Make (Dfab Studio Ltd), a design and fabrication studio in Malta. For anything to do with your data, write to smile@mattermake.com. Our full details are at the foot of this page.

what we collect

• When you write to us through the contact form: your name, your email address, what your enquiry is about, and your message. If you tick the box for the studio letter, we note that too.
• When you email or phone us directly: whatever you choose to tell us.

That’s all. The website doesn’t set cookies, doesn’t use analytics or advertising tools, doesn’t store anything in your browser, and its own pages don’t load fonts or scripts from other companies.

how the contact form works

When you press send, the website passes your message straight to our studio mailbox through Microsoft 365, and keeps no copy of it. To keep spam out, it counts how many messages arrive from the same internet address within a minute. That count isn’t kept with your message, and it’s thrown away after the minute is up.

why we use it

• To answer you, and if we end up working together, to run the project. The law calls this taking steps you asked for before a contract, and our legitimate interest in replying.
• To send you the occasional studio letter, only if you ticked the box. You can ask us to stop at any time.

We don’t sell your information, and we don’t use it for advertising.

who else handles it

• Cloudflare hosts this website. Like any web host, it sees your internet address when you visit, so it can deliver the pages and keep the site safe.
• Microsoft 365 carries and stores our email.
• Both may handle data outside the European Union. When they do, it’s under the safeguards the GDPR requires, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
• If the law requires it, we may have to share information with the authorities.

our tools

Some pages show or link to the tools we build: Gamut, D’Arcy, Rejig, Made to Grow and Malta Metabolism. Each runs on its own address, such as rejig.mattermake.com, and explains what it keeps. Some of them load fonts or code from Google Fonts or jsDelivr, which see your internet address when they do, including when a page here shows the tool in a window. Gamut reads your photos on your device and uploads nothing. The tools that ask you to sign in use a Matter Make account, which needs only your email address and a code we send you.

how long we keep it

We keep an enquiry for as long as we need it to reply. If we work together, we keep it for the length of the project and for as long as the law requires us to keep business records. If you signed up for the studio letter, your address stays on the list until you ask us to take it off.

your rights

You can ask to see the information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to stop us using it. Just write to us. If you’re not happy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to Malta’s Information and Data Protection Commissioner, at idpc.org.mt.

changes

If we change how this website handles information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
